Sermon Series on Philippians

Have you ever wondered what the goal of life is or should be? When you think about it, we live to die. If that is the extent of our existence then there is no purpose to life. However, this is not the reality. Pastor Mike discusses our significance in life and what our goals should be.

Original Intent by David Barton

Judicial activism is eroding our rights, including religious freedom. The author lays out how the original intent of our Fore Fathers was that of less government, not more. Using primary sources David Barton lays forth the intent of our founders and how to return our country to its original foundations.

Ministry Highlights

We have completed the business plan for the ministry. This was the last piece of the puzzle before starting the capital campaign.

Our next step is search for that special person or group of people to direct the preschool side of the ministry. Dr. Soud has been meeting with a group to fulfill this role. As God brings to remembrance please offer this particular matter in prayer.

If you're not familiar with SGI and our plans click here.

As we celebrate our nation's birthday I wonder if many have stopped to reflect on our history and current condition. Read the following historical quotes from the 1700s; it might surprise you from where they originated.

Desirous, at the same time, to have people of all ranks and degrees duly impressed with a solemn sense of God’s superintending providence, and of their duty, devoutly to rely, in all their lawful enterprizes [sic], on his aid and direction, Do earnestly recommend, that Friday, the Seventeenth day of May next, be observed by the said colonies as a day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer; that we may, with united hearts, confess and bewail our manifold sins and transgressions, and, by a sincere repentance and amendment of life, appease his righteous displeasure, and, through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, obtain his pardon and forgiveness; humbly imploring his assistance to frustrate the cruel purposes of our unnatural enemies; and by inclining their hearts to justice and benevolence, prevent the further effusion of kindred blood. - Continental Congress

No free government now exists in the world, unless where Christianity is acknowledged, and is the religion of the country. - Pennsylvania Supreme Court

Early in our nation's history it was very common for governmental institutions to proclaim their loyalty to Jesus Christ. Today, it is uncommon to even hear a reference to God coming from the legislative branches of our government. I agree with the implications of the second quote, Christianity and Christian principles are what allow us to live in a free society. If we allow the vestiges of Christianity to be removed from government, we will soon become its slave.

The sad thing is that most Christians will agree with me. Sad because after reading and sighing in agreement, most will continue with "doing" church and pursuing a hedonistic lifestyle. Hedonism views pleasure and happiness as the greatest good. It is a lifestyle that seeks to avoid pain of any kind, not one that elevates the virtues of work, commitment and sacrifice.

Patriotism, salvation and love are contrary to hedonism. Patriotism is putting your country first. Salvation is putting Christ first. Love is putting other people first. Unfortunately many Americans have it backwards. They believe that the country, God and other people exist to serve them.

Let's not be hedonistically minded Christians. When opportunity arises take a stand for what is right and true regardless of consequences. If we sit back and allow our nation to become negatively influenced by atheists, Muslims and other anti-Christian groups then we deserve enslavement. To emphasize my point, name one democratic country where atheists or Muslims rule. There may be one that I am not aware of, but the fact remains, America as it was intended to be cannot exist without the blessings of Christ.

Where do you begin taking a stand? It's simple. In remembrance of our nation, ask God, "What is it that you would have me to do?" Then do it.

In His Name,
Pastor Mike
